The Four Main Water Parks in Crete
Crete has four water parks, all operating seasonally between May and October. Three are clustered along the north coast east of Heraklion, making them straightforward day trips from the capital or from resorts in Hersonissos and Malia. The fourth is near Chania.
Water City — Kokkini Hani (17 km east of Heraklion)
One of the largest water parks in Crete, Water City sits just off the E75 national road near Kokkini Hani. It covers several hectares and includes a wave pool, lazy river, Black Hole tube slide, kamikaze drops, and a dedicated children's area with shallow pools and smaller slides. 2026 adult tickets are approximately €28–32; children aged 3–12 pay €20–24; under-3s enter free. The park opens at 10:00 and closes at 18:00 from mid-May to early October. It is the closest major waterpark to Heraklion — roughly 20 minutes from the terminal. Acqua Plus — Hersonissos (30 km east of Heraklion)
Acqua Plus near Hersonissos offers the widest range of ride categories in eastern Crete: free-fall slides, multi-lane racers, a family lazy river, a large wave pool, and indoor attractions for overcast days. Adult tickets in 2026 run approximately €25–30; children €18–22. The park opens in May and runs through October.
Star Beach — Hersonissos (25 km east of Heraklion)
Star Beach Crete operates differently from the two parks above — it is a beach club with water slides and pools integrated into the venue. Located directly on the sea in Hersonissos, it combines beach access, a pool complex, water slides and water sports rental. Slide and pool access costs approximately €10–15 per person; sunbed hire on the beach is charged separately. This makes it the most affordable entry point for families who also want a beach day. Limnoupolis — Varypetro, Chania (5 km southwest of Chania centre)
Limnoupolis is the leading Crete family water park in the west of the island. Set in a green valley, it is quieter and less commercial than the Heraklion-area parks. It offers 15-plus slides ranging from gentle family rides to high-speed tubes, plus a lazy river and pools. 2026 adult tickets are approximately €20–25; children €14–18. Note the shorter season: June to September only.
Planning Your Water Park Day in Crete
Timing: Arrive at opening (10:00) to secure sun loungers and avoid queues on major slides. By midday in July and August, wait times on the most popular rides can reach 20–30 minutes. Midweek visits are noticeably quieter than weekends throughout peak season.
Getting there: All four parks require a car or an organized transfer — none are served by regular public bus routes. Rental cars booked through Heraklion Airport give the most flexibility for eastern parks. Several hotels in Heraklion and Hersonissos offer shuttle services to Water City and Acqua Plus; confirm availability at reception when booking your stay.
Parking: All parks provide free on-site parking with coach bays.
Food and budget: Onsite restaurants charge high-season premiums. Most parks have designated picnic areas where outside food is permitted — packing lunch and snacks significantly cuts the cost for a family of four.
Season windows: The core season is July and August. Shoulder months — May, June and September — offer shorter queues and lower air temperatures, though the sea is warmest in September. Limnoupolis closes first (September); the eastern parks run to mid-October.
