Greece Overtakes Turkey in Belgian Summer Travel Demand

Saturday, 13 June 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Greece has climbed to third place among the most popular summer 2026 holiday destinations for Belgian travelers, overtaking Turkey in bookings. Demand from Belgium is rising, with average spending per trip up 5%, signaling stronger purchasing power among visitors this season. For tourists already planning or currently visiting Crete, this trend means higher overall occupancy across the island, particularly in peak July and August. Booking accommodations and rental cars well in advance is advisable, as popular areas including Heraklion, Chania, and Elounda are likely to see increased pressure on availability. The uptick in Belgian visitors also reflects growing confidence in Greece as a destination offering reliable quality and value compared to competing Mediterranean markets. Travelers arriving outside peak months, such as May, June, or September, will find better availability and more competitive pricing.
