Heraklion Airport recorded strong growth at the start of the 2026 summer season, with total passenger traffic rising 7.7% in May compared to the same month last year. International arrivals grew even faster, up 9.8%, reflecting increased demand from European and overseas travelers heading to Crete. This surge signals a busy summer ahead for the island, with more flights and higher occupancy across resorts and accommodation. Visitors flying into Heraklion should expect busier terminals, longer queues at passport control, and higher demand for rental cars and transfers.
