Back to newsCruise season is ramping up at Souda Bay, the main port serving Chania in western Crete. June kicks off with 22 scheduled cruise ship arrivals, beginning with the Azura, which docked on Monday morning carrying 3,163 passengers. While the number of vessel calls is higher compared to the same period last year, total passenger figures for the first five months of 2026 are down slightly overall.
For visitors arriving by cruise ship at Souda, the port is located approximately 7 kilometers east of Chania's old town. Taxis and local buses connect the port to the city center. On busy arrival days, expect higher foot traffic in the Venetian harbor area and old town. Booking restaurants or tours in advance is recommended when multiple ships are docked simultaneously.
