Back to newsThe Mayor of Chania, Alexandros Markogiannakis, met with the Greek Prime Minister at Maximos Mansion in Athens to discuss the progress of key infrastructure projects in Crete. Among the topics reviewed were the BOAK, the major east-west highway currently under construction across the island, and the Chania Municipal Swimming Pool. The BOAK is a significant road project that will eventually connect Chania to Heraklion more efficiently, reducing travel times and improving road safety for visitors driving across northern Crete. No completion dates were announced, but the meeting signals continued government attention to Crete's infrastructure development. Tourists driving in western Crete should expect ongoing construction along certain sections of the northern road corridor and plan extra travel time accordingly.
