Back to newsConstruction work on the Bramiana and Myrtos dam project near Ierapetra, on the south coast of Crete, is set to begin in early autumn 2026. The announcement came following a meeting between the mayor of Ierapetra and the director of the contracting company. The dams are part of a large-scale land improvement scheme that has been awaited for years. The project aims to improve water management and irrigation in the region. Visitors traveling to the Ierapetra area should expect some construction activity along access routes near these sites starting in September. The town of Ierapetra itself, known for its beaches and as a gateway to Chryssi Island, remains fully accessible and open to tourists throughout the construction period.
