Back to newsThe Diktaean Cave (Psychro Cave) on the Lassithi Plateau has completed a major renovation and is entering a new phase for visitors. The cave, traditionally believed to be the birthplace of Zeus and one of Crete's most significant mythological sites, has been refurbished to improve the visitor experience. The Deputy Mayor of Culture, Tourism and Sports confirmed the works, which also include the completion of landscaping at nearby Europa Square. Located in the village of Psychro at around 1,100 metres elevation, the cave is accessible via a walking path or by donkey from the car park. Visitors should wear closed, non-slip shoes as the interior is steep and wet. The site is open to the public and is typically reached via the scenic Lassithi Plateau, approximately 60 kilometres from Heraklion.
