Back to newsGreece's Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, inaugurated a new Police Sub-Directorate in the Messara region of southern Crete. The facility strengthens law enforcement capacity in one of the island's most visited areas, which includes the Minoan palace of Phaistos, the beaches of Matala, and the fertile Messara plain. Speaking at the opening, the minister stated that authorities are committed to building a safer Crete and that criminal behavior will be met with prosecution and imprisonment. For visitors, the expanded police presence in the Messara region signals improved security and faster response times in an area that attracts significant tourist traffic. The Messara Sub-Directorate will operate as a dedicated unit covering the wider southern-central Crete corridor, complementing existing police infrastructure across the island.
