Back to newsNote: This article is not about Crete. It describes an incident on Kefalonia island, another Greek destination.
A landslide occurred at Myrtos Beach on the island of Kefalonia, sending rocks and soil onto the beach while swimmers were present in the area. The incident was captured on video. Myrtos is one of the most photographed beaches in Greece and a popular stop for tourists visiting Kefalonia. If you are planning to visit Myrtos or any beach situated beneath steep cliffs, remain alert to the terrain above, especially after periods of dry or hot weather when rockfalls are more likely. Check local conditions before visiting cliff-backed beaches and follow any safety warnings posted by local authorities. This event occurred on Kefalonia, not Crete.
