Back to newsA meeting took place between local official N. Antonakakis and Yiannis Vardavas, President of the Heraklion Port Authority, to discuss plans for developing the small marina at Gournes, a coastal village located approximately 15 kilometers east of Heraklion city. The discussions focused on how to make better use of the existing port facility in the area. Gournes is already home to CretAquarium, one of the island's most visited attractions, and sits along the northern coastal road connecting Heraklion to the popular resort town of Hersonissos. If development proceeds, the marina could eventually offer additional mooring, water-based activities, or improved waterfront facilities for the area. No timeline or specific plans have been confirmed at this stage. Tourists passing through Gournes should not expect any immediate changes to access or facilities in the short term.
