Back to newsTraffic restrictions are in place on the BOAK highway (Crete's main east-west motorway) along the Mournies to Vamvakopoulo section for the next three months. Drivers should expect lane narrowing and junction closures at the Vamvakopoulo interchange. A brief full road closure is scheduled for Sunday, July 12. Additional overnight construction work is ongoing on the Kissamos to Kolympari section in the west of the island. Tourists driving between Chania and other parts of Crete should allow extra travel time, follow on-site signage, and consider avoiding the BOAK on Sunday July 12 if possible. The works are part of ongoing highway development across the island.
