BOAK Highway Road Works Begin Without Local Authority Notice

Monday, 4 May 2026/SourceHaniotika Nea/1 min read
Road safety works began on Monday on the BOAK highway, the main east-west route across northern Crete, between the areas of Pera Platani and Kalami in the Chania regional unit. The deputy regional governor of Chania, Nikos Kalogeris, publicly stated that regional authorities were not notified in advance about these works, highlighting a breakdown in coordination between central and local government. Travelers driving along the northern coastal highway in the Chania area should expect possible lane restrictions or traffic slowdowns between these two points. If you are traveling east or west across Crete by car, allow extra time for this stretch and follow signage on site. No completion date for the works was announced.
