Volunteers from the American Naval Support Activity at Souda Bay took part in a beach cleanup at Stavros Beach on the Akrotiri peninsula last Saturday. The organized effort removed litter and debris from the shoreline, leaving the beach in better condition for visitors. Stavros Beach is a popular destination located on the Akrotiri peninsula, roughly 15 kilometers northeast of Chania. It is best known internationally as the filming location for the 1964 movie "Zorba the Greek." The beach features calm, shallow waters and is well suited for families and swimmers of all levels. The cleanup reflects ongoing efforts by local and international communities to maintain Crete's coastal areas. Visitors planning to spend time at Stavros can expect clean and well-kept surroundings. The beach is easily accessible by car or bus from Chania city center.
