Back to newsThe town of Agios Nikolaos, on the northeastern coast of Crete, recently welcomed around 700 Erasmus students from countries across the world as part of an international student exchange program. The event brought a significant influx of young visitors to the area, adding a lively, multicultural atmosphere to this already popular destination. Agios Nikolaos is known for its picturesque harbor, Lake Voulismeni, and relaxed waterfront dining scene. Tourists visiting the region during this period may notice a busier than usual atmosphere in cafes, restaurants, and local attractions. The town is approximately 65 kilometers east of Heraklion and is easily reached by KTEL bus or rental car. It also serves as a convenient base for exploring the wider Lasithi region, including the palm beach of Vai and the ancient site of Gournia.
