Authorities in the Municipality of Chania conducted a large-scale fire evacuation drill, simulating the emergency response required if a wildfire were to threaten a residential area. The exercise focused on coordinating the various agencies that would be involved in a real evacuation scenario, including emergency services, civil protection units, and local government teams. Wildfires are a recurring risk in Crete during the summer months, particularly from June through September when dry conditions and strong winds can accelerate fire spread rapidly. The drill is part of ongoing preparedness efforts across the island.
