Crete Drivers Face €350 Fine for Missing Emissions Card

Friday, 15 May 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Drivers in Greece, including those renting vehicles in Crete, are reminded that carrying a valid Emissions Control Card (Κάρτα Ελέγχου Καυσαερίων) is legally required. Failure to have this document on hand during a road check can result in a fine of up to 350 euros. The card is issued following a vehicle's emissions inspection and must be kept in the vehicle at all times. Tourists renting a car should confirm with their rental company that the vehicle's emissions card is present in the car before driving. If you are stopped by traffic police and the document is missing, the fine applies regardless of whether you are the vehicle owner. Check the glove compartment when picking up your rental to avoid unexpected penalties during your stay.
