The Municipality of Lassithi Plateau has signed a contract to improve its network of mountaineering and hiking trails across the plateau, with funding co-financed through the Recovery and Resilience Fund. Works will cover trail marking, signage, and infrastructure upgrades throughout this high-altitude area in eastern Crete, known for its windmills, fertile plains, and access to Mount Dikti. The project aims to make the existing trail network safer and more accessible for hikers of varying experience levels. Visitors planning to hike in the Lassithi area should expect some trail sections to be under active works during the construction period.
