Monday, 4 May 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
A tugboat ran aground in the sea area north of Makronisos, off the coast of Crete, causing water ingress onboard. Coastal authorities responded immediately, dispatching one Coast Guard patrol vessel and two tugboats to the scene to assist the stricken craft and prevent further damage. Makronisos is a small islet in the waters north of eastern Crete. The incident prompted a maritime alert from port authorities, who are managing the situation and monitoring for any risk of pollution or navigational hazard in the surrounding waters. Visitors traveling by ferry or private boat in that area should check with local port authorities for any updated navigation advisories before departure. No injuries have been reported at this stage. The operation to secure the vessel is ongoing.
