Back to newsA flight made an emergency diversion to Chania Airport (CHQ) in western Crete after an unruly passenger caused a disruption serious enough to require an unscheduled landing. Upon touchdown, airport police were waiting and arrested the individual, who continued to resist actively during the arrest.
The incident occurred in the afternoon. While the diversion was resolved on the ground and normal operations resumed, travelers connecting through or departing from Chania should be aware that similar incidents can cause knock-on delays to other scheduled flights.
If you are flying in or out of Chania, allow extra time at the airport and check your flight status with your airline before heading to the terminal. Chania Airport serves the western part of the island and is the main gateway for visitors to the Hania region.
