Grammy-nominated artist protests BOAK expropriations in Crete

A Grammy-nominated Greek-American musician has written a formal letter of protest to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis over property expropriations linked to the construction of the new BOAK highway in Crete. The BOAK is a major east-west motorway currently under development across the island, intended to significantly improve travel times between Crete's regions. However, the project requires acquiring private land, and affected property owners, including members of the Greek diaspora, are pushing back against the process. For visitors, the BOAK construction means some roads in central and eastern Crete may experience disruption or detours during travel. Once complete, the highway will make driving between Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos, and the eastern coast considerably faster. Travelers renting cars are advised to check current road conditions before heading inland or toward the eastern part of the island.
