Tuesday, 28 April 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
A fire broke out near Agios Stefanos, on the outskirts of Ierapetra, in the Lasithi regional unit of eastern Crete, on Tuesday 28 April around midday. The fire service responded quickly and brought the blaze under control without significant delay. Ierapetra is a popular coastal town on the south coast of Crete, known for its beaches, Venetian fortress, and access to Chrissi Island. At this stage, there are no reports of injuries, property damage, or road closures affecting tourists. Visitors in the Ierapetra area can continue their plans as normal. As Crete enters the drier spring and summer season, outdoor fires can spread quickly. If you are hiking or visiting rural areas, stay on marked trails, avoid lighting open fires, and follow any local authority guidance posted at trailheads.
