4-Year-Old in Critical Condition After Dog Attack in Chania

Tuesday, 28 April 2026/SourceCretan Magazine/1 min read
A 4-year-old boy is in critical condition at the University General Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNI) after suffering a severe dog attack in Chania. The incident occurred when the child approached the dog to pet it. Tourists visiting Crete, particularly those traveling with children, should exercise caution around unfamiliar dogs, including stray and semi-stray animals commonly found in rural areas, village squares, and beaches. Avoid allowing children to approach dogs without the owner's explicit confirmation that the animal is safe. If a dog bite occurs, seek immediate medical attention at the nearest hospital or health center (Kentro Ygeias). The nearest major trauma facility in western Crete is Chania General Hospital; severe cases are transferred to PAGNI in Heraklion.
