Back to newsGreek coast guard authorities intercepted another small vessel carrying 42 irregular migrants in the sea area south of Crete today. This is the second such incident recorded within a single day in the same region. Rescue and interception operations of this kind are handled by the Hellenic Coast Guard and typically take place well offshore, away from tourist beaches and ports. Visitors to southern Crete should be aware that coastguard activity may occasionally be visible near shore, particularly in remote coastal areas. There is no safety risk to tourists, and beaches, ports, and ferry services continue to operate normally. If you spot a distressed vessel at sea, contact the Hellenic Coast Guard by calling 108.
