Beach Conditions Report

Today's wind data reveals a significant disparity between the south and north coasts of Crete. With wind speeds reaching 24.3km/h in Ierapetra and 21.3km/h in Chania, the north coast is experiencing strong winds, making it less ideal for swimming and water activities. In contrast, the south coast is relatively calm, with wind speeds of 4.0km/h in Heraklion and 6.1km/h in Ag. Nikolaos.

For families and swimmers, we recommend heading to the south coast, where beaches such as Makrigialos and Elounda offer sheltered and calm conditions. The sea temperature is also pleasant, ranging from 16.7C to 17.1C across the island. However, it's essential to exercise caution when swimming, especially on the north coast, where strong winds can create rough seas.

A surprising finding from the data is that the usually busy tourist areas of Hersonissos and Malia are experiencing wind speeds of 17.6km/h, making them less suitable for water activities today. Instead, consider visiting the more secluded beaches on the south coast, which offer a more peaceful and enjoyable experience.
