Read the story

The abandoned settlement of Apolychnos is located at an altitude of 220m, in the beautiful gorge of Apolychnos with springs and plane trees. Above the springs there is the Byzantine church of Saint Pantaleon (Panteleimon) .

The temple is a single-nave arched-roofed church with a pointed dome dating back to the 14th century. The inhabitants of the Messara plane consider it miraculous.

The interior surfaces of the church bear frescoes preserved till today in parts. We can distinguish scenes from the Twelve Great Feasts (Birth, Presentation, Last Supper), some Saints (e.g.

Saint Anthony and Saint Mamas), Saints Ten, and the founders of the temple.
