Saint John monastery at Liopetro

Below Liopetro Fortress at the area of the village Hamezi , there is the very old church of Saint John (Agios Ioannis) that once operated as a monastery, accessible through a very bad road starting from the main road connecting Agios Nikolaos to Sitia (initially it is a cement road). The background with the towering phyllitic rocks of Liopetro and the beach of Agios Ioannis is impressive.
