Read the story

The funerary temple of Archangel Michael at Arkalohori is located about 150 meters from the end of the settlement. The original church, probably of the 13th century, was cross-roofed with the transverse aisle protruding from the side walls.

In the 14th century a square narthex was added to the west with a dome resembling a cone and with two open arches on each side, which were later built with a wall and the western entrance was built with the beautiful lintel. The main church has frescoes from the end of the 13th century with scenes from the evangelical cycle and 4 scenes from the cycle of the archangel Michael ( Joshua and the Occupation of Jericho on the north wall, the Communion of Angels and the Miracle at Chonae in the south wall).

The later narthex bears frescoes from the middle of the 14th century, such as the Pantocrator in the dome, scenes from the Mariological cycle in the drum of the dome and the Evangelists in the pendentives. On the side walls is the Hospitality of Abraham and in the blind arches of the north wall the Three Holy Children in the furnace.
