The Thread of Florentine

A musical performance celebrating the life and work of Florentine Skouloudis-Kaloutsi (1890-1971), a renowned Cretan artist who revitalized traditional Cretan textiles. Born in Rethymno and educated in painting in England during a time when women's education was rare, Florentine returned to Crete and transformed tradition into creative power. Through her textile workshop "Diplous Pelekis," she connected folk art with Minoan motifs. The performance features music, poetry, narration, and video art, including original compositions by Yael Levy inspired by Florentine's works.
