Two-day celebration program in Rethymno for October 28

A two-day celebration honors the October 28 national holiday in Rethymno Regional Unit. Events begin October 27 with school ceremonies and religious services at the Church of Four Martyrs. October 28 features an official flag-raising, state liturgy presided by the Metropolitan at 8:00 AM, wreath-laying at the Unknown Soldier monument (11:45 AM), and civic-military parades (12:15 PM). Evening processions with sacred icons and relics occur at 5:00 PM. The municipal philharmonic ensemble participates throughout. In Ag. Vasileio municipality, liturgies and traditional refreshments are offered at 10:30 AM. Public buildings, ports, and vessels are decorated with flags and lighting from October 25-28.
