The Malia Strip: Layout, Hours and What to Expect
Malia nightlife is concentrated on one road: Odos El. Venizelou, known universally as the Strip. It runs approximately 1 km parallel to the seafront in the resort centre, 34 km east of Heraklion. Every bar, club and shot stop lines this stretch — you can walk the full circuit without a taxi.
The Strip activates around 21:00 with pre-drinks at seafront-facing bars. Clubs fill properly after midnight and stay open until 05:00 or later in peak season. July and August are the busiest months — expect queues at larger venues after 01:00. Shoulder months (May, June, early September) see the same venues operating with shorter queues and lower prices on entry and drinks.
The crowd skews 18–25, predominantly British, Irish and Scandinavian. Dress code is casual — flip-flops and beach cover-ups are standard at most venues, though a few clubs near the eastern end enforce smarter attire after midnight.
Best Bars and Clubs on the Malia Strip 2026
Around 60 licensed venues line the Strip. These are the consistently busy ones:
- Zero Club — Large open-air club, capacity around 2,000. Commercial dance and R&B. Free entry before midnight; 10 EUR after. Drinks from 8 EUR.
- Candy Club — Indoor/outdoor split with foam parties on Thursdays in peak season. Popular with the 18–21 crowd. Free entry most nights, shots from 3 EUR.
- Apollo Club — Tighter floor, heavier electronic music. Entry 8–12 EUR depending on the night. Opens at midnight, runs until dawn.
- Malia Beach Bar — Closest full bar to the waterfront. Best for sunset cocktails (8–11 EUR) before the Strip picks up pace.
- Banana Bar — Long-running Strip fixture with two-for-one offers until 23:00. The standard warm-up stop before the clubs.
Shot bars run the full length of the Strip: single shots 2–3 EUR, cocktail pitchers (sharing) 18–25 EUR. Card payments accepted almost everywhere. ATMs at both ends of the Strip if you prefer cash.
Malia Beach Clubs: Daytime Parties and Sunbeds
The main Malia beach club is Star Beach Water Park & Beach Club, 1 km east of the Strip centre. Entry costs 8–15 EUR including one drink. DJ sets run 11:00–18:00 daily through the summer, with a water park on site — the most organised daytime party option in the resort.
Smaller setups with sunbeds and cocktail service stretch along the full 3 km of Malia beach. Sunbed pairs rent for 8–12 EUR with a minimum drink order. The beach is sandy with shallow water. Getting There, Season and Safety
The Malia party scene runs May to early October. Peak weeks run mid-July through August. Most venues close entirely by late October.
Getting there: Malia sits 34 km east of Heraklion Airport — 30–35 minutes by taxi (25–30 EUR fixed rate) or 45–50 minutes by KTEL bus (2.50 EUR, running until roughly 22:00). Buses stop after midnight; taxis or pre-booked shared transfers (around 15 EUR per person) are the only return options late at night.
Accommodation: Party-focused hotels cluster within 300 m of the Strip. Book 3–4 months ahead for July and August. UK package deals frequently undercut direct hotel booking for flights-and-accommodation combos.
Safety: Greek police maintain a visible presence on the Strip throughout summer — uniformed and plain-clothes officers patrol regularly. Greek law prohibits public intoxication and open containers outside licensed premises. Keep passports and spare cash in hotel safes.
