Back to newsCrete is under high fire risk this Saturday, according to the Fire Danger Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection. Several areas across the island have been designated as high or very high risk zones for wildfires.
Tourists should avoid lighting fires, using barbecues, or discarding cigarettes in outdoor or rural areas. Do not park vehicles on dry grass, as hot exhaust pipes can ignite vegetation. If you plan to hike or explore forested or rural areas on Saturday, check local conditions beforehand and inform someone of your route.
In the event of a wildfire nearby, follow instructions from local authorities and emergency services immediately. The emergency number for the Fire Service in Greece is 199. Staying on designated roads and away from scrubland significantly reduces risk during high-danger periods.
