Travelers driving between cities such as Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, and Agios Nikolaos should check current road conditions before setting out, particularly on the BOAK highway corridor running east to west. Construction activity is generally heaviest on weekdays during daytime hours. Tourists renting cars are advised to allow extra travel time, follow posted diversion signs, and use navigation apps with live traffic data to avoid affected junctions. Local authorities have not announced full road closures at this stage.
