On a single day, Greek Coast Guard units carried out three separate rescue operations off the southern coast of Crete, bringing 108 migrants to shore. The operations took place near Kalos Limenes and Loutro on the southern Heraklion and Sfakia coastlines, and off the island of Gavdos, the southernmost point of Europe located roughly 45 km south of the Sfakia coast. Authorities also arrested two individuals suspected of people smuggling in connection with the arrivals. Southern Crete's remote coastline and proximity to North Africa make this area a regular point of entry for migrant crossings. While these events do not directly affect tourist activity, visitors sailing or hiking near Loutro, Gavdos, or the Libyan Sea coast may occasionally observe Coast Guard vessels on patrol or in active operations. There are no travel restrictions or safety concerns for tourists in these areas.
