Much of Europe, including Crete, is currently experiencing extreme heatwave conditions, with temperatures reaching dangerously high levels. In France alone, 40 heat-related deaths have been recorded, highlighting the severity of this climate event across the continent. Visitors in Crete should take precautions during the hottest parts of the day, typically between 11:00 and 17:00. Stay hydrated by carrying water at all times, wear light clothing and a hat, and apply sunscreen regularly. Avoid strenuous outdoor activities or long hikes during peak heat hours. Seek air-conditioned spaces such as museums, restaurants, or shopping areas for midday breaks. Beaches remain accessible, but heat exhaustion is a real risk even in the water. If you or anyone in your group feels dizzy, nauseous, or overheated, move to a cool area immediately and seek medical assistance.
