Back to newsArchaeologists working at ancient Lyktos, one of Crete's most historically significant city-states, have completed their sixth excavation season. A public event is being held in Heraklion to present findings and update locals and visitors on the progress of ongoing research at the site.
Lyktos was a powerful Minoan and later Dorian city located in the Pediada region of central Crete, roughly 30 kilometers southeast of Heraklion. The site has yielded important discoveries across multiple seasons, shedding light on Cretan civilization spanning thousands of years.
Tourists interested in Cretan archaeology can attend the public presentation in Heraklion to learn about the latest discoveries firsthand. The Lyktos archaeological site itself is accessible by car from Heraklion, making it a worthwhile half-day excursion for visitors interested in ancient history beyond the well-known Palace of Knossos.
