Back to newsElafonissi Beach, located on the southwestern tip of Crete near Kissamos, is one of the island's most photographed natural attractions. The beach is known for its shallow pink-tinged sand, caused by crushed shells and coral fragments mixed with white sand, and its calm, crystal-clear turquoise waters. A shallow lagoon separates the mainland from the small Elafonissi islet, which visitors can wade across in most conditions. The site is protected as a Natura 2000 area, so facilities are limited and camping is prohibited. Visitors should arrive early during July and August, as the beach becomes crowded by midday. Parking is available nearby for a fee. The nearest town is Kissamos, approximately 75 kilometers away by road. Bring your own supplies, as food and water vendors have restricted presence due to environmental protections.
