Rental Car Fire Destroys Vehicle on BOAK Highway in Crete

A rental car caught fire and was completely destroyed on the BOAK highway near Chania, in western Crete. The tourists traveling in the vehicle escaped unharmed. Emergency services responded to the scene. The incident occurred on one of Crete's main east-west road arteries, which connects the island's major cities and is heavily used by visitors traveling between Chania, Rethymno, and Heraklion. Temporary disruption to traffic on that stretch of the BOAK is possible while the scene was cleared. Tourists renting vehicles in Crete are advised to familiarise themselves with their rental company's emergency contact number and roadside assistance procedures before setting out, and to pull safely off the road at the first sign of any mechanical issue or smoke.
