Cruise passenger tests negative for hantavirus in Crete

Thursday, 7 May 2026/CretaOne/1
A 70-year-old Greek passenger aboard the cruise ship MV Hondius has tested negative for hantavirus, according to Greek public health authorities (EODY). The case had raised initial concern after the passenger was monitored for potential exposure. EODY confirmed it will follow any health and safety protocols issued by European and Greek health authorities should the situation develop further. At this time, there is no health alert affecting cruise passengers arriving in Crete. Tourists on cruise itineraries stopping at Cretan ports such as Heraklion or Chania can continue their plans as normal. Visitors are encouraged to monitor updates from official Greek health sources if the situation changes, and to follow standard hygiene precautions as a matter of routine during travel.
