Samaria is one of the longest gorges in Europe at approximately 16 kilometers, located in the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) of western Crete. It is a top destination for hikers visiting the island, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors each season. The gorge typically runs from the plateau of Omalos down to the coastal village of Agia Roumeli, where visitors board a boat to reach Hora Sfakion or Sougia.
