Read the story

The temple of Saint George (Agios Georgios) Galatas ( Milky ) at the village Asi Gonia , province Apokoronas , is a small single-aisled church. This temple houses one of the famous centuries-old traditions of Crete during the feast day of Saint George on April 23.

The shepherds of the region bring their goats and sheep in the courtyard of the church and they get blessed by priests! Thousands of sheep and goats invade the church yard within the sound of their bells.

The lovely intruders are milked and milk is shared to the crowd for free. The same feast takes place at the village Karoti , Rethymnon Province.
