Back to newsAccording to a new study by TUI Musement, Crete ranks 7th among Europe's top island destinations for water sports, with Malta taking the top spot. The research reflects growing demand for activity-based holidays that combine beach time with experiences on the water. Crete's long coastline offers visitors access to a wide range of water sports including windsurfing, kitesurfing, jet skiing, and scuba diving, with popular activity hubs concentrated around resorts in Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, and Elounda. The summer season, running from May through October, offers the best conditions for water activities, with strong meltemi winds in July and August particularly favored by windsurfers and kitesurfers. Tourists seeking certified instruction or equipment rental will find well-established operators at most major beach resorts along the north coast.
