Back to newsTwo large cruise ships docked at Souda Port near Chania over two consecutive days, bringing a combined total of more than 8,000 visitors to the region. Souda Bay, located approximately 7 kilometers east of Chania's old town, is the main cruise terminal serving western Crete and one of the largest natural harbors in the Mediterranean.
The back-to-back arrivals created a significant surge in foot traffic across Chania's historic center, including the Venetian harbor, the covered market, and the old town alleyways. Visitors staying in or traveling through Chania during peak cruise days should expect busier conditions at popular sites, longer waits at restaurants, and limited parking near the waterfront. Planning visits to the Venetian lighthouse, the Archaeological Museum, or the beaches of Balos and Elafonisi earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon is advisable on high-traffic days.
