World's Oldest Living Olive Tree Stands Strong at 3,000+ Years in Crete

Located in the village of Ano Vouves, in the Chania regional unit of western Crete, one of the world's oldest living olive trees is estimated to be over 3,000 years old. Scientists have confirmed its extraordinary age, making it a recognized natural monument and a remarkable piece of living history. The tree still produces olives to this day. Visitors can reach Ano Vouves, situated roughly 60 kilometers west of Heraklion and about 25 kilometers from Chania city, by car via the main coastal road toward Kissamos. The village also hosts a small olive tree museum dedicated to the history of olive cultivation in Crete. Entry to see the tree is free. The site is open year-round and makes for a worthwhile half-day excursion when exploring the Chania region.
