3.6 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Crete's Coast, No Damage

A magnitude 3.6 earthquake was recorded on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at approximately 7:00 PM local time, in the sea area southwest of Sfakia, on the southern coast of Crete near Chania prefecture. The epicenter was located offshore in the Libyan Sea. Minor earthquakes of this scale are common in the region and typically cause no damage or disruption to daily life. No injuries or structural damage have been reported. Tourists visiting western Crete, including Chania city and surrounding areas, can continue their plans normally. Ferry services and road access to Sfakia and the Samaria Gorge area are not expected to be affected.
