The regional authority is pushing for coordinated action including targeted fishing campaigns and removal efforts. For tourists, the key takeaway is clear: do not eat pufferfish under any circumstances, even if offered at a local market or caught while fishing. The fish is easy to recognize by its round, spiny body. If you spot one on the beach or in the water, leave it alone and notify local authorities.
