Back to newsStarting in 2026, the Vitsentzos Kornaros Cultural Center in Sitia, eastern Crete, is launching a new annual multithematic festival. Each edition will center on a different theme, with a focus on showcasing contemporary arts and culture. The festival is named after Vitsentzos Kornaros, the 17th-century Cretan poet and author of the Erotokritos, one of the most celebrated works in Greek literature. Sitia is a coastal town in the far east of Crete, roughly 75 kilometers from Agios Nikolaos and accessible by car or public bus. The festival adds to the town's existing cultural offerings, which include a local archaeological museum and the annual Sultana wine festival held each August. Visitors planning a trip to eastern Crete in 2026 should check the cultural center's schedule for confirmed dates and programming details.
