Greece's Busiest Airport Left Without Adequate Medical Clinic Coverage

Wednesday, 20 May 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Concerns have been raised about the medical clinic at Heraklion International Airport (Nikos Kazantzakis) being left without adequate coverage. Opposition MP Eleni Vatsina criticized the Greek government for failing to staff or maintain the airport's medical facility, describing the airport as a critical entry point for the country. Heraklion Airport is one of Greece's busiest, handling millions of tourist arrivals each summer, particularly during peak season from June through September. While no immediate disruption to flights or passenger processing has been reported, the absence of on-site medical services at a major international gateway raises safety concerns. Travelers with serious medical conditions are advised to ensure they have comprehensive travel insurance and to confirm local emergency services (EKAB: 166) remain accessible in and around the airport area.
