E-Scooter Safety Concerns Mount in Crete After Latest Accident

Tuesday, 26 May 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
A 28-year-old woman was hospitalized in Crete following an accident involving an electric scooter. The incident is the latest in a series of e-scooter accidents reported across the island, highlighting growing safety concerns around their use. Electric scooters are widely available for rent in tourist areas across Crete, particularly in cities like Heraklion and Chania. Tourists considering renting one should wear a helmet, stay off main roads where possible, and familiarise themselves with local traffic rules before riding. Greek law requires riders to hold a valid driving licence category AM or higher, and riding under the influence is prohibited. Pedestrians should also remain alert on shared paths and pavements where scooters are frequently used.
