Greece Promotes Crete's Mountains as Year-Round Destination

Monday, 1 June 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
Greece's Ministry of Tourism concluded its nationwide Mountain Tourism campaign in Heraklion with a public event held at the courtyard of the Loggia, the historic Venetian-era building in the city center. The event featured interactive activities for visitors, live traditional Cretan music, and folk dance performances. The campaign aimed to promote Crete's mountainous interior, including areas such as the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) and the Psiloritis range, as year-round destinations beyond the coastal resorts. For tourists, this signals growing infrastructure and attention toward inland hiking, agrotourism, and village experiences. Visitors interested in mountain tourism in Crete can explore trails, gorges, and traditional villages that remain accessible outside peak summer season. The Loggia is located on 25th August Street in central Heraklion and is a recognized landmark within walking distance of the harbor.
