Gas Safety Alert: Don't Use Electronics—Evacuate Immediately

Wednesday, 20 May 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
If you smell gas in your accommodation or nearby, knowing what not to do is as important as knowing what to do. Do not switch any electrical switches on or off, do not use a lighter or matches, do not ring a doorbell, and do not use your mobile phone inside the building. These actions can trigger a spark and ignite the gas. Instead, leave the building immediately without using the elevator, leave doors open as you exit to help ventilate the space, and once outside call the emergency gas line or the fire service at 199. Do not re-enter the building until authorities confirm it is safe. Tourists staying in apartments or villas in Crete should locate the gas shutoff valve on arrival and ensure they know the quickest exit route from their property.
